Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness
"O come let us adore Him." While those are words from a favorite Christmas hymn, they truly are appropriate for describing our worship life here at St. Bernards!
Each Sunday we gather to celebrate Holy Eucharist, to lift our voices in songs of praise and thanksgiving, and to hear God’s word proclaimed, prayed and preached. During the 10 a.m. service children are invited to attend Church School, then join us for Holy Communion. Child care is provided for the very young.
Our services are from the The Book of Common Prayer (1979) and our music drawn from The Hymnal 1982 of the Episcopal Church, as well as the wider English choral tradition.
On special occasions you are likely to encounter string and brass ensembles, in addition to the organ, as well as guest vocalists.
In the parlance of the Anglican World Communion, our worship is broad, with a leaning toward High Church. Our principal Sunday service, for example, begins with the procession of the Choir, servers and celebrant. However, the Saturday evening service, while using more "formal" liturgical language is much more relaxed and intimate. Musical accompaniment Saturday evenings is frequently a violin soloist or duo. We seldom use incense at our services and encourage worshippers to express their piety in prayer as they prefer.
All who are baptized are invited to receive Holy Communion in both kinds. Coffee hour and on most Sundays adult education follows the 10am service in the Parish House.
