Youth Groups

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

The Middle School Youth Group is a shared ministry of Saint Bernard’s Church and The Church of Saint John on the Mountain, the two Episcopal parishes in Bernardsville.

As a rule of thumb, the MS Youth Group meets on the second and fourth Sunday of each month (5 – 7 p.m.), September through May. A schedule is proposed at the beginning of each school year and then revised to meet the needs of the group.

Events are educational and social, just for fun some weeks and focused on teaching topics other weeks. They include game nights, hiking, rock climbing, bowling, movie nights, parties, service opportunities, and other activities, and usually include a meal.

The clergy of both parishes are involved in the leadership of this program, as well as parents and young adult volunteers.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

In September 2006 the Churches of Saint Bernard and Saint John on the Mountain began to offer events for High School Youth on the first Sunday evening of each month (5 – 7 p.m.). The clergy of both parishes are involved in the formation and organization of this renewed ministry, as well as parent volunteers.

DIOCESAN YOUTH EVENTS

The Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey supports a full time ministry to youth. Canon Kep Short, Director of Youth Ministry, heads the diocesan Youth Ministry Office located in our Diocesan House in Trenton.

Events for young people of all ages are promoted via the web site of the Diocesan Youth Ministry and by way of literature sent out seasonally. Activities include a Fall Youth Event, Happening, and various community service opportunities.

NATIONAL YOUTH EVENTS

The Episcopal Church USA sponsors youth events at the national level. These are usually large-scale gatherings of youth from around the country and from overseas and involve over-night stays.
